Lipoid was founded in 1977 and has since grown to become the largest independent supplier of lecithins and phospholipids of high quality for pharmaceutical application.
Their products are mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry, but are also used in the cosmetic and dietetic industries, where materials of high quality are required.
Lipoid supplies products from developmental to industrial scale. Technical support, data sheets and training programs may be offered. Products are developed in close collaboration with customers to ensure that their requirements are met.
More than 80% of Lipoid’s products are manufactured for pharmaceutics.
These products are typically being used in high-tech formulations such as liposomes,
mixed micelles and parenteral fat emulsions

For further information please request the product catalogue titled: "Lecithins
and Phospholipids"
Lipoid offers sophisticated pre-formulations, different types of lecithin as emulsifiers, refattening ingredients and raw materials for liposomes.
Lecithin and Phospholipids
Phospholipids from soya and egg, unsaturated and saturated (hydrogenated), soya phospholipids also partially hydrolised
Unsaturated phospholipids
Both mixtures as well as highly purified phospholipids are well accepted in hair and skin care. They are valuable raw materials for the production of liposomes and other delivery systems.
In addition to their traditional lecithins and phospholipids Lipoid also offers enzymatically-modified phospholipids (lysophospholipids) which features an improved emulsification efficacy.
All Lipoid's cosmetic materials are derived from vegetable sources and can also be obtained from non-genetically modified (non-GMO) oilseeds.
Lipoid offers different types of unsaturated and saturated (hydrogenated) phospholipids which are used as
• Emulsifiers
•
Liposomes
•
Nanoemulsions
•
Solubilisers
•
Active ingredients
Phospholipid Compounds
Combination products from phospholipids with other functional ingredients
for natural cosmetics - also for the production of structure-stabilised systems
Lipoid SLM is a highly viscous basis (matrix) consisting of hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine (PC), ethanol, triglycerides and glycerol. This is used in the following main applications:
• Natural cosmetics
•
Liquid crystalline structured
Lipoid Liposomes
These are dispersions of liposomes, produced with saturated or unsaturated
soybean phospholipids or phosphatidylcholine (PC), loaded or unloaded.
LIPOID Liposomes are offered "empty", i.e in solutions free of active
ingredients, as well as loaded with water soluble active agents. The type of
the encapsulated water soluble active agent depends on customers' choice and
may include moisturizers, a-hydroxy acids, plant extracts, amino acids, etc.
•
LIPOID Liposomes - delivery system for hydrophilic actives
•
Cerasome - liposomes with membranes similar to stratum corneum membranes
Nanoemulsions
Ultraspheres® and Ceraspheres® are finely dispersed nanoemulsions produced
with phospholipids as the only emulsifier. These are natural carrier systems
for lipophilic actives such as vitamins, Coenzyme Q10, vegetable oils, etc.
These products are characterized by a very small droplet size (< 300 nm)
and an improved encapsulation efficacy for lipophilic actives compared to liposomes.
•
Ultraspheres® - finely dispersed emulsions with phospholipids. Delivery
system for lipophilic actives.
•
Ceraspheres® - finely dispersed emulsions with stratum corneum lipids.
Delivery system for lipophilic actives.
Solubilizer
New patented ((WO 2004/047791 A2) solubilistion technique for solubilizing
a broad variety of lipids called NanoSolve
NanoSolve represents a new solubilizing technique utilising phospholipids dispersed
in highly concentrated aqueous solutions of polyols or carbohydrates. The product
is able to solubilise large quantities of lipids. Due to the very small droplet
size (30-60 nm) these emulsions are transparent to translucent.
NanoSolve can be prepared with a broad variety of lipids such as triglycerides,
ester oils, lanolin, shea butter, mineral oil, vitamins, essential oils, coenzyme
Q10, UV-filters, etc.
These products are physiologically-safe, non-toxic mediums composed exclusively
of natural ingredients free of preservatives with a very small particle size
which gives an excellent distribution on the skin.
NanoSolve products are mostly tailor made with special lipids or lipophilic
actives. With NanoSolve Lipoid offers a newly developed, patented solubilisation
technique for liphophilic actives
Advantages of NanoSolve:
•
Improved stability
•
Very good solubilisation of lipophilic substrates, no excess of detergent
•
Transparent/ translucent emulsion
•
Small particle size of 30-60 nm
•
Free of preservatives and synthetic surfactants
•
No mono- or dihydric alcohols
Lipoid develops and produces dietetics as finished products as a contract
manufacturer.
Lecithin and Phospholipids
These include natural phospholipid mixtures, concentrated and purified phospholipids
from soya and egg.
The following list highlights Lipoid products in this category:
•
Soy Phospholipids
•
Soy Phosphatidylcholine (PC)
•
Phosphatidylserine (PS)
Most of the soy-derived products can be produced from non-genetically modified
(non-GMO) soybeans.
•
Glycerophosphocholine (GPC)
•
Egg phospholipids

Phospholipids as formulation tools in nutritional products
In addition to physiological benefits, phospholipids provide a range of technological
properties, which are beneficial for various formulations, e.g.
•
Liposomes - liposome preparations loaded with the customer’s choice of
nutrients
•
Pro-Liposome - phospholipid concentrates for easy conversion to defined liposome
preparations
•
NanoSolve - a newly developed and patented solubilisation system for lipophilic
ingredients
•
Phospholipid Compounds
Combination products from phospholipids and nutrients, e.g. LIPO products)
LIPO products:
The LIPO range of products is a category of nutritional foods formulated as
agglomerated powders. Main nutritional ingredients are phospholipids in a synergistic
combination with other nutrients, e.g. isoflavones, anthocyanins.
The products are designed for reconstitution in all kinds of liquids (water,
milk, juice, etc.) and come with a customized flavour profile.
•
Dietetics (agglomerated, instantised)
Powder products e.g. for weight reduction, sports nutrition, high protein powders,
functional foods
Health Food
These are customised health food products in agglomerated and instantised powder
form for a wide range of different nutritional applications.
I addition to a variety of standard products Lipoid have the flexibility to
tailor formulations to individual needs using their sophisticated production
technology and formulation experience. Lipoid offers as a contract manufacturer
the development, production and packaging under the label of their customers. These
products have excellent dispersibility and solubility.
Products include:
•

In addition to lecithins and phospholipids, Lipoid also offers Plant Extracts
and tinctures for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and health food market.
Lipoid distributes these standardised products for the use in pharmaceutical,
cosmetic and dietetic applications.
For the production of extracts according to the specifications of the customer
the most modern and gentle processes are used.
The extracts are produced by either percolation or maceration, depending on
the raw material. The extracts are dried by different methods. The products
